Special Hobby 1/72 Scale Civil Transport Aircraft Kit

Special Hobby DC‑2 “Transport Revolution” (1/72) – Item SH72511

This newly reissued kit from Special Hobby revives the classic Douglas DC‑2 moulds, offering authentic cabin layout and sleek late‑1930s design. The box includes enhanced 3D‑printed and photo‑etched details, and decal options for four global liveries—TWA, KLM, Swissair, and Czechoslovakian CLS. It’s a modernised re-release of the MPM injection-moulded original, now updated with improved accuracy and surface finish. ()

  • 1/72 scale injection-moulded plastic kit (SH72511)
  • Three sprues plus clear parts and a dedicated 3D‑printed detail sprue
  • Features four decal schemes for aircraft from North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia
  • Retractable landing gear, variable-pitch props, and full passenger/cockpit glazing
  • Photo-etched parts for cockpit detail, seat belts, and external features

Note, glue and paints are not included. While cabin interior is basic, windows are tight fitting—precision and pre-masking are advised. ()

Historical Context,

The DC‑2 revolutionised 1930s commercial aviation by offering all‑metal monoplane performance with retractable gear and seating for 14 passengers. Debuting in 1934, it set new standards in comfort and speed, serving airlines such as TWA and KLM—and even Korean-built variants under licence by Nakajima in Japan. ()
