Special Hobby Plastic Model Kit

P-40E Warhawk Tigers and Sharks (1/72) SH72529

The Curtiss P-40E Warhawk is one of the most iconic American fighters of the Second World War, known for its rugged construction, distinctive nose art and service across multiple battlefronts. This 1/72 scale kit from Special Hobby represents the P-40E variant, the first to use the V-1710 F-series engine and delivered in large numbers to both US and Allied forces under Lend-Lease.

This boxing focuses on aircraft that operated in some of the most challenging environments, notably the Aleutian Islands. In these harsh conditions, the P-40Es were modified to improve reliability. American Warhawks received sealed exhausts and machine gun barrel covers, while Canadian Kittyhawks were fitted with unique antenna systems. These modifications are captured in the kit via alternative 3D printed exhaust and antenna parts.

Markings are included for four aircraft: two American Warhawks featuring tiger nose art and two Canadian Kittyhawks with dramatic shark mouth schemes.

  • Detailed and accurate 1/72 scale P-40E Warhawk model kit
  • Includes two grey sprues and one clear sprue
  • Alternative 3D printed parts for exhausts and antennas
  • Decals for four aircraft: two US, two Canadian
  • Features Aleutian-specific field modifications
  • Wide range of camouflage and marking options

This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.

History

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk served in nearly every theatre of World War II, but the P-40E variant marked a significant leap in performance and versatility. Deployed by both USAAF and Allied forces under various names such as Kittyhawk Mk.IA, the aircraft proved its value in rugged environments and against determined enemies. In the Aleutian Islands campaign, P-40s faced not only Japanese aircraft but also the extreme weather and terrain of the northern Pacific. These conditions led to field modifications that enhanced survivability and reliability, including sealed exhausts and custom antennas.

The aircraft featured in this kit reflect that operational diversity, combining unique nose art, adaptation to hostile environments and cross-national service. Whether engaging in combat or supporting training roles, the P-40E played a vital role in maintaining Allied air superiority in the early years of the war.
