History:
The Supermarine Seafire FR Mk.47 represented the final evolution of the legendary Spitfire lineage, redesigned for naval operations. Developed alongside the Spitfire Mk.24, this last-generation Seafire featured substantial modifications, including a tail-mounted sting-type arrestor hook, folding wings for carrier compatibility, and a powerful six-bladed contra-rotating propeller. Built at the South Marston plant, only 99 units were produced, serving primarily with No.800 Squadron aboard H.M.S. Triumph and No.804 Squadron on H.M.S. Ocean. While most of these aircraft saw limited post-war use, a few participated in combat during the Malayan Emergency and the Korean War. Between July and September 1950, Seafires of No.800 Squadron flew over 400 missions from H.M.S. Triumph, including offensive fighter patrols and ground attack sorties over the Korean Peninsula. This kit captures that historic period with markings from two aircraft that served during the conflict, including one known for its dramatic crash near Malta.
