The M153 CROWS II system was introduced to allow vehicle crews to operate weapon systems from within the protection of the armoured cabin, significantly reducing exposure to hostile fire. When mounted on the M1114, it marked a shift toward remote-operated defensive systems becoming standard on U.S. tactical vehicles. This configuration became increasingly common during later stages of modern conflicts, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan, where survivability and situational awareness were critical.
