Takom Aircraft Model Kit
Takom Henschel Hs129 B-2 (1/48) 48001
The Takom Henschel Hs 129 B-2 is a detailed 1/48 scale model kit of one of the most specialised ground-attack aircraft developed during the Second World War. Designed specifically to provide close air support and anti-armour capability, the Hs 129 earned a reputation as a dedicated tank hunter and became an important asset for the Luftwaffe on several fronts.
Unlike many aircraft that were adapted for the ground-attack role, the Hs 129 was designed from the outset to survive combat over the battlefield. Its compact cockpit was heavily protected with armour plating and thick armoured glass, giving the pilot a greater chance of surviving enemy ground fire. The rugged airframe was equally focused on durability, allowing the aircraft to operate in demanding combat conditions.
The B-2 variant represented the most widely used version of the aircraft and featured a variety of armament options tailored to the anti-tank mission. Standard aircraft carried cannon and machine-gun armament, while specialised field conversions mounted increasingly powerful weapons beneath the fuselage to engage heavily armoured Soviet vehicles. This flexibility allowed the Hs 129 to remain effective as battlefield requirements evolved.
This Takom kit captures the distinctive appearance of the aircraft with detailed exterior surfaces and accurately reproduced features. The heavily armoured cockpit, twin-engine configuration and characteristic ground-attack armament make the Hs 129 a unique addition to any Luftwaffe collection. The 1/48 scale provides ample opportunity for detailed painting, weathering and display.

History
The Henschel Hs 129 was developed following lessons learned during the Spanish Civil War, where German planners recognised the need for a specialised aircraft dedicated to close air support and ground attack operations. Unlike conventional fighters adapted to attack ground targets, the Hs 129 was purpose-built around pilot protection and anti-armour capability.
Early production aircraft suffered from limited performance, leading to the adoption of more powerful French-built Gnome-Rhône radial engines. The resulting Hs 129 B series entered service on the Eastern Front and in North Africa, where it was used extensively against tanks, armoured vehicles and battlefield targets. As Soviet armour became increasingly formidable, progressively heavier weapons were fitted to the aircraft, culminating in versions armed with enormous 75mm cannon.
Although produced in relatively small numbers, with 866 aircraft built, the Hs 129 remains one of the most distinctive and heavily armed ground-attack aircraft of the Second World War. Its specialised design and anti-tank mission have secured its place in aviation history as one of the Luftwaffe’s most unusual combat aircraft.
