With fine panel lines and a faithful cockpit layout, this model is ideal for both display and diorama settings.

History
The F4U Corsair was designed around the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine, giving it over 2,000 horsepower and a large propeller that required the distinctive inverted gull wing. Early Corsairs struggled with carrier landings, but the F4U-1D featured key improvements including a raised cockpit, a semi-bubble frameless canopy, and reinforced landing gear. The -1D variant introduced dual wing pylons capable of carrying 1,000lb bombs or napalm tanks, plus eight 5-inch rockets, enhancing its strike capabilities.
By 1944, the F4U-1D became the first Corsair version fully cleared for carrier operations, with squadrons VMF-124 and VMF-213 deploying aboard USS Essex en route to the Philippines. The aircraft played a critical role in the Pacific theatre, supporting operations through 1945 including attacks on Japanese mainland targets. Over 3,700 units of the F4U-1D were produced, marking it as a cornerstone of U.S. Navy aviation by the end of WWII.
