This 1/48 scale assembly kit from Tamiya replicates the formidable German King Tiger (Production Turret) — a heavy tank feared by Allied forces during the final stages of WWII. Featuring the angular Henschel turret used in mass production, the King Tiger combined unparalleled armor protection with devastating firepower from its 88mm L/71 high-velocity main gun, capable of penetrating even the thickest Allied armor at long range. Its imposing presence made it a dominant force in battles such as the Ardennes Offensive.

Introduced to counter the growing threat of Soviet armor, the King Tiger’s thick frontal armor — up to 185mm on the turret face — rendered it nearly invulnerable from the front. Combined with its powerful gun and robust Maybach HL230 P-30 engine, it was both a defensive stronghold and an offensive juggernaut. However, its immense weight and complex engineering made it mechanically demanding. Despite its drawbacks, the King Tiger remains one of the most iconic and formidable tanks of WWII, and this Tamiya kit captures its imposing presence in superb detail for any historical diorama.
