This 1/35 scale Tamiya model kit recreates the Leopard main battle tank, the first tank developed by West Germany after the Second World War. Designed to provide NATO forces with a highly mobile and well-armed vehicle, the Leopard entered service in the early 1960s and quickly became a benchmark for Cold War armoured warfare.

History: The Leopard was conceived to replace postwar stopgap armour in West Germany’s reformed Bundeswehr. First prototyped in 1961 and adopted in 1963, it was designed for high-speed manoeuvres and reliability in a variety of conditions. With a 105mm British-made L7A1 gun, advanced fire control systems, and a multi-fuel Mercedes-Benz engine, it could match or surpass other NATO main battle tanks of the time. Its mobility and adaptability made it a cornerstone of European armoured defence during the Cold War, with service in numerous NATO armies and beyond.
