History: The Panzer IV Ausf. D entered service in 1939 and played an important role in the German military campaigns of the early war years. It was equipped with a short-barrelled 75mm KwK 37 L/24 gun, primarily intended for infantry support. The Ausf. D saw combat in Poland, France, and the early stages of Operation Barbarossa, laying the foundation for later variants that would become the backbone of German armoured forces throughout WWII.
