This 1/48 scale Tamiya kit accurately reproduces the Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik, the legendary Soviet ground attack aircraft of WWII. Designed with a robust monocoque fuselage and heavy armour plating, the Il-2 excelled in low-level attack missions, striking enemy armour, fortifications, and troop positions. Initially built as a single-seat aircraft in 1940, it was later modified to include a rear gunner in 1943 to improve survivability. The addition of swept outer wings further enhanced handling, making the aircraft even more effective in combat. With over 36,000 built, the Il-2 became an essential asset to Soviet forces, earning a reputation as the “flying tank.”
