The Type 10 is Japan’s latest main battle tank, designed for modern combat scenarios with an emphasis on speed, adaptability, and networked operations. Developed for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, the Type 10 features a domestically produced 120mm smoothbore cannon and a cutting-edge C4I (Command, Control, Communication, Computer and Intelligence) system that allows seamless coordination with other units in real time. It also offers modular armour configurations and impressive manoeuvrability for operations in urban and mountainous terrains.
First deployed in 2012, the Type 10 represents the technological evolution of Japan’s tank forces, following the legacy of the Type 74 and Type 90. It weighs approximately 44 tons, significantly lighter than many Western tanks, making it highly suitable for Japan’s infrastructure and transport systems.
