Tamiya Morris Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.1 Model Kit

Tamiya Morris Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.1 (1/24) 24039 is a plastic model assembly kit recreating the compact British car. This updated reissue captures the distinctive form of the Morris version and includes revised decals, masking stickers, updated packaging and a four-language instruction manual.

The completed model measures 130mm long, 61mm wide and 56mm high. Its 1/24 scale makes it part of Tamiya’s range of 1/24 plastic kits.

The revised instruction manual expands the previous two-language version to four languages. The updated decal sheet provides several recognisable decorative features, including the chequered roof, bonnet stripes and “MORRIS” number plate lettering.

History of the Mini Cooper 1275S

The original Mini was produced from 1959 until 2000 without any major model changes. Despite measuring only three metres in length, its wheels were positioned at the corners, creating enough cabin space to seat four adults. Its design used a two-box layout with a transverse engine, while the transmission and gearbox were placed in the oil sump. Suspension comprised front double wishbones and rear trailing arms, with rubber cones replacing conventional springs.

The British Motor Company introduced the Morris Mini Minor and Austin Seven in 1959. John Cooper developed a more powerful version in 1961, released as the Morris Mini Cooper. The Mini Cooper S followed for race and rally participation, with the 1275S Mk.1 arriving in 1964 with a 1,275cc engine.

A 1071S won the Monte Carlo rally in 1964 despite competing against more powerful cars. The 1275S then achieved victories in 1965 and 1967. Morris and Austin versions of the Mini Cooper S were produced, differing only in their grille designs and emblems.
