Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

Tamiya North American F-51D Mustang (1/32)

This 1/32 scale model from Tamiya recreates the North American F-51D Mustang, the re-designated variant of the legendary WWII P-51D, as used during the Korean War. Despite the growing dominance of jet aircraft, the F-51D played a vital ground attack role due to its superior endurance and ability to operate from makeshift runways, providing crucial air support to United Nations forces in the early stages of the conflict.

  • Highly detailed 1/32 scale assembly kit with a length of 308mm and wingspan of 354mm
  • Newly tooled parts for six 5-inch HVAR rockets and wider paddle blade propeller
  • Moving flaps, ailerons, rudder, and elevators using metal shafts and polycaps
  • Engine cowls attach via magnets for easy removal and detailed internal display
  • Selectable in-flight or parked display options with dedicated parts
  • Tail wheel held with magnet, flaps movable via poly caps
  • Detailed cockpit includes options for SCR-522 or AN/ARC-3 radio systems
  • Two pilot figures: standing and seated with Korean War-era P-1A helmet
  • Includes 16-page colour booklet and 3 marking options (2 U.S., 1 Korean)

This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.

History:

The North American F-51D Mustang was an updated designation for the P-51D following the formation of the United States Air Force. Though seemingly destined for retirement with the rise of jets, the F-51D returned to action during the Korean War due to its operational flexibility and effectiveness in close air support roles. It performed heroically in the early years of the war, offering precision ground attack capabilities and reliable performance from basic forward airstrips. Its versatility and combat record extended the life of this legendary aircraft well beyond WWII.
