Introduced in mid-1944, the P-47D Bubbletop was a formidable fighter-bomber that excelled in both air-to-air and ground-attack roles. Its powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine, heavy armament of eight 12.7mm machine guns, and rugged airframe made it a favourite among Allied pilots. Used extensively in Europe during the latter stages of WWII, the Bubbletop variant combined the Thunderbolt’s renowned durability with greatly improved cockpit visibility, helping secure its place as one of the most respected aircraft of the conflict.
