German RSO/01 Tractor in 1/35 Scale

Recreate the German RSO/01 tracked tractor with this newly moulded Tamiya 1/35 Military Miniature Series kit. Developed during WWII to cope with difficult conditions including deep snow, the RSO served as both an artillery tractor and a goods transport vehicle. This model captures the post-spring 1943 version and its distinctive rounded pressed-steel cabin.

The completed model measures 126mm long and 64mm wide. Detailed exterior surfaces, mechanical components and alternative assembly choices make it a versatile subject for Eastern Front, France 1944 and general WWII transport or artillery scenes.

Detailed Construction

The RSO/01’s engine, drive shaft and differential gears are faithfully represented, adding substantial mechanical interest to the project. Its assembly-type tracks include convenient one-piece straight sections, while the wide snow tracks are rendered along the track sides to reflect the vehicle’s ability to travel over snow and poor roads.

Authentic texture is carried across the cargo area, with wood patterns depicted on the bed and fabric patterns reproduced on the canvas cover. The cabin front cover can be assembled either with or without shutters, providing another visible choice for the completed model.

The optional canvas cover changes the appearance of the cargo bed, while building it without the cover reveals the canvas frame. Masking stickers are provided to assist when painting the transparent window parts, and the included driver figure adds scale and context to the finished tractor.

Marking Choices

Two decal options are included: a vehicle from the 1st Skijager Division on the Eastern Front in 1944 and a vehicle from an unknown unit in France during 1944. These choices support two distinct WWII settings for the completed model.
