The M4A3E8 “Easy Eight” was a late-war development of the Sherman series, offering significant upgrades over earlier versions. Designed for improved firepower and smoother ride, it featured a 76mm gun and the Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension (HVSS) system. This gave the tank enhanced mobility across rugged terrain, earning it the affectionate nickname “Easy Eight” from its crews. Approximately 2,500 units were produced by the war’s end, with some seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge and continuing service into the Korean War.

History: The M4A3E8 Easy Eight was one of the most refined Sherman variants, introduced near the end of WWII to counter heavier German armour. With its enhanced suspension and firepower, it proved highly effective during the final European campaigns and served well into the Korean War. It is also widely recognised for its appearance in postwar media, including the 2014 film “Fury,” where its performance and iconic silhouette were brought to a new generation of enthusiasts.
