Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

Tamiya Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVIe (1/32)

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVIe represented one of the final evolutions of this legendary British fighter. Based on the Mk.IX airframe but powered by a Packard-built Merlin engine, the Mk.XVIe featured a distinctive bubble canopy and clipped wings for improved low-altitude performance. This 1/32 scale model from Tamiya delivers exceptional detail and accuracy, making it an excellent choice for modellers interested in late-war RAF aircraft.

  • 1/32 scale plastic model assembly kit
  • Accurate depiction of the Mk.XVIe with bubble canopy
  • Includes parts for open or closed canopy configuration
  • Fully detailed cockpit with instrument panel and side consoles
  • Optional drop tanks and ordnance included
  • Flaps and control surfaces can be posed
  • Two pilot figures: seated and standing
  • Marking options for various RAF squadrons

This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.

History:

Entering service in the latter stages of WWII, the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVIe retained the outstanding agility of its predecessors while incorporating advancements suited to late-war combat. It was equipped with a bubble canopy for better visibility, a revised “E” wing configuration for mixed cannon and machine gun armament, and a Merlin engine manufactured in the USA. The Mk.XVIe saw service in ground-attack and low-level interception roles, contributing to the RAF’s efforts across the European theatre in 1944 and 1945.
