Tamiya Plastic Model Kit

U.S. Self-Propelled 155mm M40 (1/35) 35351

The M40 was a powerful self-propelled gun developed by the U.S. military during WWII, featuring the formidable 155mm “Long Tom” gun mounted on a modified Sherman chassis. Though it arrived too late to see combat in WWII, the M40 proved itself during the Korean War, delivering accurate long-range bombardment from behind front lines. Its open fighting compartment housed an 8-man crew and the vehicle’s mobility allowed it to reposition quickly after firing missions.

  • 1/35 scale assembly kit of the U.S. M40 SPG with detailed interior
  • Includes poly caps to enable realistic elevation of the 155mm gun
  • Adjustable rear spade and deployable tailgate
  • Clear parts for optical equipment and light lenses
  • Photo-etched parts for engine grilles
  • Includes full crew of 8 figures in action poses
  • Markings for Korean War service included

Note: This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.

History

Designed as a mobile platform for the 155mm “Long Tom” artillery piece, the M40 entered production in early 1945. It was built using modified components of the M4 Sherman and M4A3 tank chassis and offered a major advantage over towed artillery in terms of mobility and survivability. Although the war in Europe ended before it could be deployed in combat, the M40 would go on to serve effectively in the Korean War, where its powerful gun provided long-range fire support in harsh terrain. With a crew of eight and a top speed of 38km/h, it brought flexibility to U.S. artillery strategy. Its long service life and battlefield effectiveness marked it as a key development in U.S. self-propelled artillery.
