Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
U.S. Tank Destroyer M36 (1/35)
This 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit recreates the formidable U.S. Tank Destroyer M36, a vehicle introduced late in WWII to counter heavily armoured German tanks. Based on the M10A1 chassis and powered by a 450hp petrol engine, the M36 featured an open-top turret mounting a powerful 90mm gun, giving Allied forces the firepower needed to engage Panthers and Tigers at long range.
- 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit
- Length: 216mm, width: 88mm
- Faithfully reproduced open-top turret with 90mm gun breech and detailed interior
- New parts excluding the M2 heavy machine gun and transparent components
- Realistic cast texture on turret counterweight and other surfaces
- Full interior with shell racks, floor detail, and bulkheads
- Assembly type tracks with one-piece straight sections
- Accessories include ammunition cases and one full-body tanker figure
- Two marking options: 3rd Army in Luxembourg and 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Germany
Note: This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.
History:
Developed in 1943, the M36 Gun Motor Carriage was America’s answer to increasingly well-armoured German tanks. The earlier M10 tank destroyer, armed with a 76.2mm gun, struggled against the formidable Tiger and Panther. By fitting a newly designed open-top turret with the M3 90mm gun onto the M10A1 chassis, the M36 offered the range and penetration needed to neutralise these threats. Entering combat in late 1944, the M36 proved decisive during the Battle of the Bulge, halting German armoured advances. Its firepower made it one of the few Allied vehicles capable of destroying heavy German tanks at long distances. Variants such as the M36B1 and M36B2 expanded its use, and the type saw postwar service in conflicts like the Korean War. Remarkably, the M36 remained in service with some nations into the 1990s, a testament to its robust design and enduring battlefield effectiveness.
