Trumpeter Plastic Model Kit
De Havilland Hornet F.3 (1/48) 02894
The Trumpeter 1/48 scale De Havilland Hornet F.3 model captures the sleek lines and performance of one of the fastest piston-engine fighters ever produced. Developed near the end of the Second World War, the Hornet was designed as a long-range, high-speed fighter for operations in the Pacific. Although it saw limited wartime service, the Hornet became a formidable aircraft during the early Cold War era, serving in RAF Fighter Command and overseas squadrons.
This kit includes over 80 parts and features sharp panel detail, a fully rendered cockpit and clear canopy components. Its compact twin-engine layout and elegant fuselage make for a distinctive and rewarding build. Measuring 236.3mm in length with a 285.8mm wingspan, this kit balances detail and simplicity for a satisfying modelling experience.

History
The De Havilland Hornet was a high-speed, twin-engine fighter developed as a successor to the famous Mosquito. Its wooden construction, refined aerodynamics and powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engines gave it exceptional performance. The Hornet F.3 variant entered service with the RAF after the Second World War and was one of the fastest piston-powered aircraft of its time.
Although designed too late to see extensive wartime action, the Hornet saw operational use in the Far East, including during the Malayan Emergency. Its speed, range and handling made it a valuable asset for rapid deployment and strike missions. Today, it remains an underappreciated but fascinating chapter in British aviation history, captured here in accurate 1/48 scale by Trumpeter.
