This 1/48 scale kit from Trumpeter replicates the J-20S “Mighty Dragon”, the twin-seat variant of China’s fifth-generation stealth fighter. Developed by Chengdu Aerospace Corporation, the J-20S serves as an advanced trainer and possible electronic warfare or strike platform. First seen in flight tests during 2021, the aircraft made its public debut at the Zhuhai Air Show in 2024 and entered formal service in 2025.

History: The J-20S “Mighty Dragon” represents a major evolution in China’s stealth aircraft programme. As the world’s first operational twin-seat fifth-generation stealth fighter, it is believed to serve both training and combat roles, including electronic warfare or mission coordination. The second cockpit expands capability for multi-role operations, a concept not yet adopted by other stealth fighter programmes. Unveiled at the 2024 Zhuhai Air Show, the J-20S has solidified China’s position at the forefront of advanced combat aviation technology and continues to see expanded deployment into PLA Air Force units.
