This 1/32 scale P-51B Mustang III from Trumpeter represents the early Merlin powered Mustang that helped turn the tide of the air war over Europe. Known as the Mustang III in RAF service, the P-51B combined excellent high altitude performance with long range escort capability, allowing Allied bombers to finally receive fighter protection deep into enemy territory.
The kit captures the aircraft’s slim fuselage, framed canopy, and laminar flow wings with large scale surface detail that lends itself well to careful painting and weathering. Trumpeter’s tooling provides a solid base for displaying the Mustang either clean or configured for operational sorties, highlighting its role as both an escort fighter and ground attack aircraft.

Entering frontline service in 1943, the P-51B was powered by the Packard built Merlin engine, transforming the Mustang into a true long range escort fighter. Armed with four .50 calibre machine guns and capable of carrying bombs or drop tanks, it proved devastatingly effective against the Luftwaffe while also supporting ground operations. Its combination of speed, range, and reliability made it one of the most influential fighters of WWII.
