History

The De Havilland Sea Hornet NF.21 was a naval night fighter derived from the land-based Hornet, itself a high-performance twin-engine aircraft developed at the end of the Second World War. Entering Royal Navy service in the late 1940s, the NF.21 featured folding wings, radar, and reinforced structures for carrier use. It was one of the fastest piston-powered naval aircraft of its era, capable of intercepting Soviet bombers and performing night operations with efficiency and speed.

Though its service life was relatively short, the Sea Hornet demonstrated the remarkable potential of late-war piston-engine design before being overtaken by jet-powered aircraft. This model commemorates a unique chapter in Fleet Air Arm history and showcases an aircraft that balanced elegance, firepower and technological innovation.
