Zimi Model Plastic Model Kit

AH-6J Little Bird Nightstalkers (1/35)

This reissue brings the AH-6J Little Bird back with meaningful upgrades rather than just a new box. Zimi took the original Kitty Hawk mould as the starting point, then refined assembly fit, corrected issues in the instruction manual, and now supplies machined metal gun barrels along with photo-etched detail. The result is a more polished, buildable kit that keeps the special operations spirit of the Little Bird at the core.

  • 1/35 scale plastic model kit
  • Newly upgraded moulds
  • Crisp, clear transparent parts
  • Three decal options
  • Newly upgraded instruction manual
  • Includes new metal gun barrels and photo-etched parts

History

The AH-6J is the armed variation of the Little Bird series, a compact helicopter used by US special operations aviation for fast insertion, extraction, and close support. Its agility, small size, and potent weapons load made it valuable in numerous operations. Over time, these light attack Little Birds have become iconic symbols of elite rotary wing capability, blending speed, stealth, and firepower on missions where larger helicopters cannot operate effectively.

Zimi’s release taps directly into that legacy, offering modellers a kit that reflects the aircraft’s modern era use, while addressing the typical pain points of earlier versions from the same mould lineage.

Notes from the wider modelling community

When the original Kitty Hawk version was assessed by independent reviewers, strengths included fine surface rivet detail and a richly detailed cockpit and engine, while issues were reported around confusing instructions, some errors, brittle plastic, and decal colour anomalies. Community discussion around the Zimi reissue notes that mould updates were claimed, and there is optimism that these updates reduce the need for aftermarket fixes. This makes the Zimi kit particularly attractive to builders who want a cleaner in-box experience than earlier releases offered, while still retaining scope for further detailing if desired.
