Airfix Plastic Model Kit

Supermarine Spitfire Tr.9 – 1/48 Scale (A05143)

The Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Tr.9 in 1/48 scale (A05143) offers modellers the opportunity to recreate a unique and elegant post-war evolution of Britain’s most iconic fighter aircraft. The two-seat Spitfire Tr.9, originally developed after WWII, served as a training and flight experience variant rather than a combat aircraft, adding a new chapter to the legendary Spitfire story.

Every Spitfire Tr.9 began life as a standard single-seat Mk.VIII or Mk.IX fighter before undergoing conversion. No official two-seat Spitfires were built during wartime; instead, these variants emerged post-war to serve in training roles and, more recently, to offer civilian flights in surviving airworthy examples. With this kit, Airfix pays tribute to the enduring appeal and aviation heritage of the Spitfire.

History:

While over 20,000 Spitfires were produced during and after the Second World War, none left the factory as two-seat trainers. It wasn’t until the post-war era that several Mk.IX and Mk.VIII aircraft were converted into two-seat Tr.9s for use in training and, more recently, for heritage flights. Today, these aircraft continue to inspire aviation enthusiasts by preserving the Spitfire’s legacy both in the air and on the ground.
