History:

The PBJ-1J Mitchell was the naval version of the famed B-25 bomber, modified for service with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Equipped for maritime strike duties, the PBJ-1J included advanced radar systems and often carried a formidable forward-firing armament. Operating from airfields in the Pacific, these aircraft performed a range of roles including anti-shipping missions, bombing raids, and close air support. Units such as VMB-611 and VMB-614 flew them in the closing stages of the Pacific campaign, contributing to the final Allied victories. The versatility and ruggedness of the B-25 design allowed it to be successfully adapted for naval use, and the PBJ-1J served with distinction through the end of the war.
