History:
Between 1807 and 1814, the French infantry battalion formed the backbone of Napoleons armies, structured around six companies: four fusilier, one grenadier, and one voltigeur. This organisation allowed for flexibility in both line and skirmish tactics. Following the uniform regulations of the period, French soldiers typically wore dark blue coats with white lapels, shakos adorned with cords and plumes, and crossbelts for cartridge boxes and bayonets. These battalions fought in campaigns across Europe, from the Peninsular War and the invasion of Russia to the bitter defence of France. The battalion was the key tactical unit of the Grande Arme, combining discipline, firepower, and mobility. This set captures the composition and look of a French battalion at the height of Napoleonic warfare.
