History:
The M18 Hellcat was developed in response to the need for a highly mobile anti-tank platform. Entering service in 1944, it was powered by a radial aircraft engine, enabling speeds of up to 55 mph, unmatched by other armoured vehicles of the era. Armed with a 76mm gun, the Hellcat excelled in hit-and-run tactics, striking German tanks and quickly repositioning. Though lightly armoured, its mobility was its greatest defence. The M18 Hellcat served with distinction in Europe during World War II and influenced post-war tank destroyer design philosophies.
