History:
The North American P-51B Mustang marked a turning point in the Allied air war during WWII. Introduced in 1943, the B-variant was the first to feature the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, dramatically improving high-altitude performance. This advancement allowed the Mustang to escort heavy bombers deep into German territory, reducing bomber losses and establishing air superiority. The P-51B combined speed, range, and firepower, making it one of the most effective fighters of the war. Its service with the USAAF and RAF proved decisive in the strategic bombing campaign, and it remains one of the most celebrated fighter aircraft in aviation history.
