History:
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was the US Navy’s standard carrier-based dive bomber at the outset of World War II. The SBD-2 variant served in several early engagements, but its most famous contribution came during the Battle of Midway in June 1942. Flying from carriers such as USS Enterprise and USS Yorktown, Dauntless squadrons attacked the Japanese fleet, delivering devastating strikes that sank four enemy carriers in a single day. The success of the SBD-2 at Midway marked a turning point in the Pacific War, showcasing the importance of naval aviation. Academy’s 1/48 kit allows modellers to recreate one of the most iconic aircraft of the battle, complete with historically accurate markings and detail.
