Airfix Plastic Model Kit
Airfix Boeing 314 Clipper (1/144) A04172V
The Boeing 314 Clipper is one of aviation’s most iconic and glamorous aircraft—an elegant flying boat that epitomised luxury air travel during the golden age of transoceanic flight. Designed for long-range routes across the Atlantic and Pacific, the Clipper allowed passengers to cross vast distances in comfort that rivalled the world’s finest ocean liners. With its spacious interiors and sleek profile, it remains a symbol of pre-war aviation prestige.
This Vintage Classic 1/144 scale model from Airfix revives a beloved kit that’s sure to bring back memories for experienced modellers. With 76 parts, the build offers a rewarding project and a nostalgic journey into classic kit design. Originally operated by Pan American World Airways and BOAC, only twelve Clippers were ever built, making them a rare and historically significant type.
Though intended for luxury commercial service, the outbreak of the Second World War saw these flying boats repurposed for military roles—including the transport of high-profile leaders such as Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. Their reliability, long range, and impressive payload capacity made them a valuable asset during wartime.

History:
Introduced in 1939, the Boeing 314 Clipper was designed to fulfil Pan American’s vision of global air travel. With a range of over 3,500 miles and room for passengers, crew, and cargo, the Clipper brought unprecedented reach and comfort to the skies. It quickly became a symbol of prestige and progress. However, its civilian career was cut short by war, and the aircraft transitioned to military duties. Used for VIP transport and strategic missions, the Clipper proved its worth in both peace and conflict. Today, it is remembered as one of the most beautiful and influential aircraft of its time.
