Airfix Plastic Model Kit

Airfix Shorts Skyvan (1/72) A04018V

The Airfix Shorts Skyvan is a detailed 1/72 scale model kit from the popular Vintage Classics range, recreating one of Britain’s most distinctive utility transport aircraft. Known for its unmistakable box-shaped fuselage and exceptional short take-off and landing performance, the Skyvan earned a reputation as a dependable aircraft capable of operating from remote airfields and unprepared runways around the world.

This kit contains 152 finely moulded parts and is rated as a Skill Level 3 build, making it suitable for modellers with some previous experience. The completed model has an impressive wingspan of 275mm and captures the unique appearance of the twin-turboprop transport with accurate surface detail and authentic proportions.

Two marking options are included, allowing builders to finish the aircraft in different operational schemes. As part of the Airfix Vintage Classics collection, this kit brings back a well-loved tooling while preserving the charm of one of Airfix’s classic aircraft releases.

The Skyvan’s large square fuselage and rear loading ramp made it ideal for transporting cargo, passengers and military equipment. Its simple yet highly effective design allowed operators to use the aircraft for freight, humanitarian relief, parachuting, survey work and military transport across a wide range of operating environments.

History

The Short SC.7 Skyvan first flew in 1963 and was developed by Short Brothers as a rugged and economical transport aircraft capable of operating from short and unprepared airstrips. Its distinctive square-section fuselage maximised internal cargo space, while the rear loading ramp made loading and unloading quick and efficient. Around 150 aircraft were built before production ended in 1986, serving with commercial operators, military forces and humanitarian organisations across the world. During the Falklands War, Argentine military forces operated Skyvans in transport and support roles, further demonstrating the aircraft’s versatility and reliability in demanding conditions.

Glue and paints are sold separately.
