Arma Hobby Plastic Model Kit
P-51D Mustang VLR
The Arma Hobby P-51D Mustang VLR in 1/72 scale represents the Very Long Range Mustangs used during operations over Japan in 1945. This detailed kit captures the distinctive configuration of late-war Pacific Theatre Mustangs equipped for extended escort missions and ground attack operations.
Part of the 1/72 aircraft model kits range, the kit includes additional components specific to VLR operations, including extended-range fuel tanks and underwing rockets commonly seen on Pacific-based aircraft.
- 1/72 scale plastic model kit
- Very Long Range P-51D configuration
- Includes additional VLR fuel tank sprue

History
The North American P-51 Mustang became one of the most successful fighter aircraft of the Second World War. Initially developed for the Royal Air Force, the aircraft evolved into a long-range escort fighter capable of accompanying Allied bombers deep into enemy territory.
The P-51D variant introduced the distinctive bubble canopy and improved visibility while retaining the aircraft’s excellent speed, range, and manoeuvrability. In the Pacific Theatre, Very Long Range (VLR) Mustangs were adapted for operations over Japan, often flying extremely long missions from bases such as Iwo Jima.
These aircraft escorted B-29 Superfortress bombers during raids against the Japanese mainland and frequently carried external fuel tanks to maximise operational range. Underwing rockets were also fitted for ground attack and strike missions during the final stages of the war.
The P-51D Mustang earned a lasting reputation as one of the finest piston-engined fighters ever built and played a major role in securing Allied air superiority during the closing years of the conflict.
