History
The Royal Naval Air Service, established in 1914, was the air arm of the Royal Navy during World War I, tasked with reconnaissance, fleet protection, and offensive operations against enemy naval and coastal targets. RNAS pilots flew a variety of aircraft, from seaplanes to fighters like the Sopwith Camel and Pup, often operating from makeshift airfields and early aircraft carriers. Their uniforms typically featured naval-style tunics, flying coats, and protective gear suitable for both sea and land-based missions. In 1918, the RNAS merged with the Royal Flying Corps to form the Royal Air Force.
