Cutting Mats for Model Making & Hobby Work

Model Cutting Mats for Accurate Hobby Work

Create a practical surface for cutting, trimming and preparing parts with a model cutting mat from Scale Model Shop. A dedicated modelling mat provides a defined work area for scale modelling and other detailed hobby projects, helping you work with greater control while keeping your workbench organised.

Choose from model-making cutting mats in A2, A3, A4 and A5 sizes. The range includes compact mats for smaller workspaces, larger surfaces for more involved projects and self-healing options designed for repeated hobby use. Brands represented include Tamiya, DSPIAE, Infini Model, Modelcraft, AK Interactive, Mr Hobby, Expo Tools, Humbrol and RP Toolz.

Choose the Right Model Cutting Mat

The best size will depend on your workspace and the projects you enjoy. An A4 or A5 hobby cutting mat is a convenient choice for compact desks and smaller modelling tasks. A3 and A2 mats provide more room for laying out components, working with longer cuts and keeping tools close to the project.

Self-healing cutting mats from Modelcraft are available in A3 and A4 formats, while double-sided and easy-cutting designs provide further options for different workbench arrangements. You can also explore the wider range of modelling tools and accessories to complement your cutting area.

Specialist Mats for Masking Tape

Specialist designs can make preparing shaped masking tape easier and more consistent. DSPIAE masking-tape cutting mats include patterns for straight lines, concentric circles, arcs and polygons, giving modellers useful guides for creating masks suited to detailed painting work.

Infini Model Easy Cutting Mats are available in several types, including clear and multi-type options. These specialist surfaces offer additional choice for modellers building a dedicated masking and cutting set-up.

Build a More Capable Modelling Workspace

A model-building mat is a useful foundation for an organised hobby area. Position it beneath your current task to create a consistent cutting surface, then pair it with the cutters and preparation tools suited to your project.

Whether you need a compact model kit mat, a spacious surface for larger builds or a specialist design for preparing masking tape, explore the collection and choose a cutting mat that fits your workspace and modelling style.
