The Panzer III Ausf. J was produced in late 1941 and early 1942, retaining a short barrel 5 cm KwK 38 gun. This version saw action in early Barbarossa and North Africa before being superseded by later Ausf. K models. Command variants featured extra radio sets and stowage, while field modified AA versions were occasionally fitted with twin MG platforms to defend convoys and static positions.
