The Eduard North American P-51B Mustang Royal Hybrid Edition is a premium 1/32 scale aircraft kit that combines traditional injection-moulded components with advanced 3D-printed detail parts to deliver an exceptionally detailed representation of one of the most famous Allied fighters of WWII. This special edition has been designed for modellers seeking the highest level of accuracy and detail straight from the box.

The Royal Hybrid Edition includes five plastic sprues alongside a substantial collection of 3D-printed components covering the cockpit, undercarriage bays, landing gear legs, seat belts, wheels, exhausts and machine gun barrels. These parts form an integral part of the kit and are required during assembly, allowing Eduard to achieve levels of detail that would be difficult to reproduce using traditional injection moulding alone.

Additional enhancements include pre-painted photo-etched parts, precision-cut painting masks, OMASK plugs for the main landing gear bays and a pilot figure. Eight marking options are provided, allowing builders to recreate a variety of P-51B and P-51C aircraft from the Mustang’s wartime service.

A major feature of this release is the inclusion of an illustrated reference book exceeding 100 pages. Written by Jan Zdiarsky, it covers the development of the P-51B/C Mustang, combat service history, camouflage and markings evolution, and pilot equipment, making it both a modelling reference and historical resource.

The P-51B Mustang represented a significant step in the Mustang’s development, combining excellent range, speed and high-altitude performance. Its introduction helped provide long-range escort protection for Allied bombers operating deep into occupied Europe and played a major role in establishing Allied air superiority during the later stages of the war.

History

The North American P-51 Mustang is widely regarded as one of the finest fighter aircraft of WWII. The P-51B introduced the Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, dramatically improving high-altitude performance and transforming the Mustang into a world-class escort fighter. With its long range and excellent combat capabilities, the aircraft escorted Allied bomber formations deep into German territory and contributed significantly to the success of the strategic bombing campaign. The P-51B and P-51C variants served across multiple theatres and were flown by many of the highest-scoring Allied fighter pilots of the war.
