GreenStuffWorld Steel Modelling Weights 8mm x 2mm – 250

These GreenStuffWorld steel modelling weights are compact counterweight discs for correcting weight distribution and centre of gravity in miniatures, scale models, vehicles, scenery and other hobby projects. Each disc measures 8mm in diameter and 2mm thick, making it small enough to conceal underneath many miniature bases or inside models where additional ballast is needed.

The pack contains 250 steel discs. They can be used individually, positioned side by side or stacked when space allows, so the amount and location of the added weight can be adjusted progressively rather than relying on one large counterweight.

Balance miniatures and prevent tipping

For tall or asymmetric miniatures, additional weight can be placed underneath the base to improve stability. Models carrying large weapons, wings, banners or other overhanging components can develop an off-centre centre of gravity and become prone to tipping. Positioning one or more discs towards the opposite side of the base can help compensate for this imbalance.

The same approach works with large creatures, busts, display figures and gaming scenery. Keeping the additional mass low in the model is particularly useful for tall pieces or models that are handled regularly.

Compact ballast for scale models

These steel weights also have practical uses inside aircraft, tanks, military vehicles, ships, model railway rolling stock, slot cars, dioramas and hollow 3D-printed models. Aircraft that sit back on their tails can have discs positioned inside the nose before final assembly, while vehicles and turrets can be balanced by placing weight opposite a heavy component.

Because each disc is only 8mm across and 2mm thick, several can be positioned separately where internal space is restricted. This allows the modeller to adjust the balance more precisely and test different locations before fixing the weights permanently.

Fixing the steel discs

Temporary putty or Blu Tack can be used first to find the correct position. Once the model balances as required, the discs can be permanently secured with cyanoacrylate super glue or epoxy adhesive. The steel disc and fixing surface should be clean and free from dust, grease or mould-release agents before permanent installation.
