Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit

Hasegawa Nakajima B5N2 “Kate” (1/72) HAA07

The Hasegawa Nakajima B5N2 “Kate” is a highly detailed 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s principal carrier-based torpedo bomber during the early years of the Second World War. Known to Allied forces by the reporting name “Kate”, the B5N2 became famous for its role in some of the Pacific War’s most significant naval engagements.

Part of Hasegawa’s popular A Series, this kit features finely moulded plastic parts, clear canopy components, high-quality waterslide decals and an easy-to-follow illustrated assembly and colour guide. The aircraft’s elegant lines, radial engine and crew positions are accurately reproduced, providing an authentic representation of this iconic Japanese naval aircraft.

Hasegawa’s renowned tooling quality delivers crisp surface detail and excellent fit, making the model suitable for both newcomers and experienced aircraft modellers. The compact 1/72 scale is ideal for displaying alongside other Pacific Theatre aircraft or creating larger carrier aviation collections.

History

The Nakajima B5N2 was the definitive production version of Japan’s highly successful carrier-based torpedo bomber. Entering service before the outbreak of the Pacific War, it played a leading role during the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and later participated in the Battles of Coral Sea, Midway and numerous other naval operations. Capable of carrying either a Type 91 aerial torpedo or conventional bombs, the B5N2 proved remarkably effective despite its relatively light defensive armament. Although eventually replaced by newer aircraft, the “Kate” remains one of the most significant carrier aircraft of the Second World War.

Glue and paints are sold separately.
