History

The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk entered secret operational service with the United States Air Force during the early 1980s as the world’s first purpose-built stealth attack aircraft. Developed under the highly classified “Have Blue” programme, its unique faceted design dramatically reduced radar detection, allowing it to penetrate heavily defended airspace and deliver precision-guided weapons against strategic targets. The F-117 first saw combat during Operation Just Cause before proving its effectiveness during the Gulf War in 1991, where it successfully struck heavily defended targets with remarkable accuracy. Although retired from frontline service in 2008, the Nighthawk remains one of the most influential military aircraft ever developed.
