Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit

Kawasaki Ki-100-I Otsu [Tony] (1/48) 09138

This 1/48 scale plastic model kit from Hasegawa represents the Kawasaki Ki-100-I Otsu, an Imperial Japanese Army Air Force fighter introduced during the final stages of WWII. Known to Allied forces by the reporting name “Tony,” the Ki-100 combined a proven airframe with a reliable radial engine, resulting in a highly capable interceptor.

The kit captures the sleek fuselage lines and distinctive engine cowling that set the Ki-100 apart from its inline-engined predecessor. Finely engraved panel lines and well-proportioned components allow for an accurate representation of this late-war Japanese fighter. Designed with careful attention to fit and surface detail, the model provides a solid foundation for both out-of-the-box builds and more detailed finishing work.

History

The Ki-100 was developed as an expedient solution when production issues affected earlier inline-engine fighters. By fitting a Mitsubishi radial engine to the existing airframe, engineers created an aircraft that offered improved reliability and balanced performance.

Entering service in 1945, the Ki-100 proved agile and effective in combat, particularly at lower altitudes. Although introduced too late to influence the overall outcome of the war, it remains regarded as one of the most successful Japanese Army fighters of the conflict.
