Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit

Mitsubishi F-2A (1/48)

Highly detailed 1/48 scale representation of the Mitsubishi F-2A, the single seat variant operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. Released as part of the Hasegawa PT Series, this kit captures the aircraft’s enlarged wing, reshaped fuselage and distinctive modern profile.

Clear canopy parts and waterslide decals are included, supported by an easy to follow build guide and colour guide. The larger scale allows the subtle differences between the F-2 and earlier designs to stand out, making this a rewarding build that focuses on clean assembly and careful finishing.

  • 1/48 scale plastic model kit
  • Mitsubishi F-2A single seat fighter
  • Japan Air Self-Defense Force markings
  • Part of the Hasegawa PT Series range
  • Clear canopy parts included
  • Waterslide decal sheet
  • Illustrated build and colour guide
  • Requires glue, paints and basic tools to complete

History

The Mitsubishi F-2 was developed as a joint programme between Japan and the United States, intended to replace older strike and air defence aircraft while incorporating Japanese specific requirements. Although often compared to the F-16, the F-2 featured a significantly larger wing, increased use of composite materials and domestically developed avionics.

The F-2A single seat variant entered service in the early 2000s with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, optimised for maritime strike and air defence missions. While produced in relatively limited numbers, the aircraft represents an important step in Japan’s modern aerospace capability, blending proven design concepts with national innovation. In scale form, it stands out as a distinctly modern and uniquely Japanese fighter.
