Hasegawa Plastic Model Kit

Hasegawa Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX R.A.F. (1/48) HAJT79

The Hasegawa Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX R.A.F. is a highly detailed 1/48 scale plastic model kit of one of Britain’s most iconic fighter aircraft. Developed to counter the introduction of the formidable Focke-Wulf Fw 190, the Spitfire Mk.IX became one of the Royal Air Force’s most successful and widely used fighter variants during the Second World War.

Containing 101 precision-moulded parts, the completed model measures approximately 197.5mm in length with a wingspan of 234mm. Hasegawa has accurately recreated the elegant elliptical wing, streamlined fuselage and detailed cockpit, complemented by finely engraved panel lines, clear canopy parts and excellent overall fit. The kit includes a detailed assembly guide and decals for two authentic wartime aircraft.

Marking options include a Spitfire Mk.IX of No.316 Squadron RAF and a Spitfire Mk.XVI of No.443 Squadron RAF, allowing builders to display two distinctive operational aircraft from the later years of the war. The generous 1/48 scale provides an excellent canvas for camouflage painting, weathering and additional detailing.

History

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX entered RAF service in 1942 as an urgent response to the appearance of the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin 61 engine, the Mk.IX restored the RAF’s competitive edge and became one of the finest all-round fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It served in every major theatre of operations, providing fighter escort, interception and ground attack capabilities. The Mk.IX remained in frontline service until the end of the war and became the most-produced Spitfire variant, cementing the aircraft’s reputation as one of the greatest fighters ever built.
