History

The Carro Comando series was developed by Italy to provide armoured command vehicles capable of directing tank and mechanised units during combat operations. Based on existing tank chassis, these vehicles sacrificed heavy armament in favour of enhanced communications equipment and command facilities. This allowed commanders to remain mobile and protected while maintaining contact with frontline formations.

The M14/41 was one of Italy’s principal medium tanks during the Second World War and served extensively in North Africa. Command variants based on the M14/41 chassis accompanied armoured units during operations across the desert, where effective communication was essential due to the vast distances involved. Vehicles equipped with the Breda 13.2mm machine gun retained a useful level of defensive capability while fulfilling their primary role as command platforms.

Although Italian armoured forces faced significant challenges during the war, specialised vehicles such as the Carro Comando played an important role in improving battlefield coordination and command efficiency.
