IBG Models Plastic Model Kit
FV4101 Charioteer in the Middle East
This 1/72 scale kit from IBG Models represents the FV4101 Charioteer, a British tank destroyer developed in the post-war period. Designed to provide enhanced anti-tank capability, the Charioteer combined an existing tank chassis with a more powerful gun, creating a practical solution to evolving battlefield requirements.
Part of the 1/72 vehicle model kits range, this version depicts the vehicle in Middle Eastern service. Its compact scale makes it suitable for display or inclusion in dioramas focused on post-war and early Cold War conflicts.

History
The FV4101 Charioteer was developed by the United Kingdom in the late 1940s as a cost-effective way to improve anti-tank capabilities. Rather than designing a completely new vehicle, engineers adapted the Cromwell tank chassis and fitted it with a new turret armed with the powerful 20-pounder gun.
This upgrade allowed the Charioteer to engage more heavily armoured targets, addressing the limitations of earlier wartime designs. Although the vehicle retained relatively light armour, its improved firepower made it a useful addition to armoured units during the early Cold War period.
The Charioteer was not widely used by British forces for long, but it was exported to several countries, including nations in the Middle East. In these regions, it saw extended service, often adapted to local requirements and operating conditions.
The vehicle represents a transitional phase in armoured warfare, bridging the gap between Second World War designs and more modern main battle tanks. Its combination of an older chassis with updated weaponry reflects the practical approach taken during a period of rapid technological change.
