Italeri Plastic Model Kit

Italeri AW-101 Merlin HM.1 (1/72) 1486

The AW-101 Merlin in 1/72 scale offers a detailed model of one of the most advanced and versatile medium-heavy helicopters in modern military service. Developed jointly by AgustaWestland (now Leonardo) and Westland Helicopters, the Merlin was created to meet the demanding requirements of the British Royal Navy and the Italian Navy as a successor to the SH-3D “Sea King.” It officially entered service in the early 2000s.

While originally intended for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), the Merlin’s exceptional operational flexibility has seen it adapted for a wide range of roles including troop transport, maritime search and rescue (SAR), and combat search and rescue (CSAR). Its robust design, triple-engine configuration, and all-weather capability enable it to operate in diverse and demanding environments. This kit features a length of 31.6cm when assembled and includes a decal sheet with three distinct marking options from the British Royal Navy.

  • Scale: 1/72
  • Finished model length: approx. 31.6cm
  • Detailed reproduction of the AW-101 Merlin helicopter
  • Triple-engine configuration for extended range and performance
  • Includes decal sheet with three British Royal Navy variants
  • Suitable for ASW, SAR, CSAR and transport-themed dioramas
  • Supplied unassembled and unpainted

Note: This model kit requires assembly and painting. Glue, paints and tools are not included and must be purchased separately.

History:

The AW-101 Merlin was born from a multinational effort to produce a next-generation, multirole helicopter that could operate from ships and on land, across all types of missions. Its service with the British Royal Navy has proven the design’s adaptability and reliability in roles ranging from anti-submarine warfare to high-risk rescue operations. With over a decade of proven performance and continued global use, the Merlin stands as a benchmark in rotary-wing aviation.
