Matho Models 1/35 Jungle Plants E

Add finely detailed vegetation to your modelling projects with Matho Models Jungle Plants E. This 1/35 accessory contains one photo-etch sheet measuring 7.5 x 4.5 cm, etched from ultra-thin 0.10 mm brass to create realistic leaf thickness and finely defined plant details.

The very fine etching includes leaf veins, helping the finished plants achieve a convincing appearance once they have been painted, shaped and positioned. The plants can be used as ground cover or added as foliage to your own tree armatures, making this a versatile set of photo-etched parts for creating detailed vegetation. A thin green metal wire can be used to attach the plants when adding them to tree armatures. Base is not included.

Ultra-Thin Photo-Etched Brass

The 0.10 mm brass allows the leaves and branches to remain thin while retaining the fine etched detail. Once removed from the fret, the individual leaves and branches can be carefully shaped to give the plants a more natural position rather than leaving them flat.

Painting and Shaping

Leave the plants attached to the fret during the initial painting and weathering stages. Airbrush a few layers of acrylic primer, allowing at least 24 hours of drying time between each coat. Continue with your regular acrylic or enamel colours and weathering products, then seal the finish with a few coats of varnish. Allow the varnish to dry for at least 24 hours before handling the plants further.

Place the fret on a hard surface such as wood or glass and carefully cut the plants free using a fresh knife. Any remaining fret attachment points can be cleaned with a micro file. Handle the painted parts gently to minimise scratching.

Use two pairs of tweezers for shaping, holding the plant with one pair while positioning the leaves and branches with the other. Bend the individual leaves as well as the branches for a more natural appearance. Once shaped, carefully glue the plants into position. Any exposed brass caused by cutting or handling can be touched up with the main colour using a round brush with a very fine tip.
