History
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 was introduced in the later stages of the Second World War as an improved version of the earlier Fw 190 variants. Known as the “Dora”, it was equipped with a liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213 engine, which provided better high-altitude performance compared to the radial engines used in earlier models.
The D-9 was primarily used as an interceptor, tasked with engaging Allied bomber formations and escort fighters. Its combination of speed, climb rate, and firepower made it a formidable opponent, particularly in the closing stages of the war.
Mimetall was one of the manufacturers responsible for producing the Fw 190D-9, and its aircraft featured specific production characteristics that distinguished them from those built by other factories. These variations are reflected in the details captured in this kit.
Although introduced late in the conflict, the Fw 190D-9 remains one of the most respected German fighter aircraft designs, representing a significant evolution of the original Fw 190 concept and the ongoing effort to counter increasingly capable Allied aircraft.
