History

The Gloster Javelin entered service with the Royal Air Force in the 1950s as a dedicated all weather interceptor. It was designed to defend British airspace against potential high altitude bomber threats during the Cold War.

The FAW Mk.8 variant incorporated improvements in radar and weapon systems. Although eventually replaced by more advanced supersonic interceptors, the Javelin remains one of the most distinctive British jet fighters of its era.
