Roden Convair B-36D Peacemaker 1/144 Model Kit
The Roden Convair B-36D Peacemaker (337) is a 1/144 scale plastic model kit depicting the American ten-engine strategic heavy bomber operated by the United States Air Force during the Cold War. The kit includes four marking options covering the B-36D, B-36F, B-36H and B-36J variants between 1955 and 1958.
Developed from the earlier B-36B, the B-36D introduced four additional jet engines alongside its six piston engines. This unusual combination became one of the aircraft’s defining characteristics and gave rise to the well-known phrase “Six turning, four burning”.
Convair B-36D Peacemaker
The Convair B-36 was an American strategic heavy bomber developed for long-range operations. The B-36D represented an important development of the earlier B-36B, incorporating additional jet propulsion to improve the aircraft’s performance.
Four General Electric J47 jet engines were added to the existing six-engine arrangement. Each jet engine produced approximately 5,200 lbf (23 kN) of thrust, contributing to improvements in speed and range.
The resulting ten-engine configuration was unusual in aviation history. Combining piston engines and jet engines on a strategic bomber made the B-36D particularly distinctive among American military aircraft of the period.
Cold War Strategic Bomber
The B-36 Peacemaker served during the early decades of the Cold War, when long-range strategic bombers formed an important part of American military planning.
More than 300 aircraft were built across the B-36 programme. Later developments included improvements to radar equipment and changes to defensive armament.
Although the B-36 never participated in combat during the conflicts of its operational period, it remained an important part of the United States Air Force’s strategic bomber force.
The type continued in service until 1959, when it was completely replaced by the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress.
Four Aircraft Marking Options
Roden provides marking options representing four versions of the Convair B-36 Peacemaker from the final years of its operational service.
- Convair B-36D Peacemaker
- Convair B-36F Peacemaker
- Convair B-36H Peacemaker
- Convair B-36J Peacemaker
- Marking period: 1955-1958
These options cover several developments of the B-36 during its later service with the United States Air Force.
1/144 Scale Plastic Model Kit
This Roden plastic model kit represents the Convair B-36 Peacemaker in 1/144 scale, allowing the large strategic bomber to be displayed alongside other aircraft models built to the same scale.
The B-36’s combination of six piston engines and four jet engines gives it a recognisable configuration, while its Cold War service makes it a relevant subject for collections of American strategic aircraft.
It can be displayed alongside other 1/144 scale aircraft kits, particularly those representing post-war bombers and military transport aircraft.
